CLASSES

This class will survey the fundamentals of blacksmithing and metal fabrication techniques as applied to sculpture. Students will learn to forge and manipulate hot metal – bending, cutting, punching, drawing down (taper), twisting, and upsetting (shortening). Students will also learn MIG and TIG welding techniques including several types of joinery for both sheet material and bar stock. Metal finishing and simple patinas will also be introduced.

Safety and proper shop etiquette will be observed.

 

This course is a closer look at the fundamentals of blacksmithing and metal fabrication techniques as applied to sculpture. Students will learn to forge and manipulate hot metal – bending, cutting, punching, drawing down (taper), twisting, and upsetting (shortening). Students will also learn MIG and TIG welding techniques including several types of joinery for both sheet material and bar stock. Metal finishing and simple patinas will also be introduced. This will be a project-based class beginning with simple hooks and progressing to student-designed and executed sculpture.

Safety and proper shop etiquette will be observed.
